This was definitely a work week. I made a (huge) list of things I wanted to accomplish in the lab this week and, despite actually adding to list every day, I managed to get through everything except "read papers," "deglycosylate RNase B," and "run friggin column, already." That last one will have to get done before my group research presentation on tuesday. Ick.
What did I do for fun this week? Monday I started my Flamenco lessons, and I must say I am awesome. Really, I may have missed my calling. I was meant to stomp and slide and twirl. I've been trying not to practice too much in front of people, though, I keep getting very strange looks.
Friday I saw Lewis Black do stand-up. Egads, my lungs hurt from laughing so hard. My only complaint is that the Austin Music Hall seating arrangements are a tad too snug. Every other person in the row had to lean foreward so we weren't sitting all hunched up, shoulder to shoulder. Airplanes have more room!
Saturday morning we took Ellie kayaking and did a little fishing. The fish weren't biting, but Ellie saw her first swan, which came right up to us when we grounded on a little island so Ellie could splash around in the water and eat (gasp) shells. We also saw a water snake and lots of turtles. I'm still mad I didn't catch any fish (we always catch and release), I haven't been fishing since last fall and wanted my first time this summer to be productive! Randy and I discovered kayak fishing last August and I have been a lover of the sport ever since. I even named my red fishing pole Murray (present) and got little red fish hooks to match him. Maybe we'll have better luck next week?
And finally last night we watched the Cotto v. Margarito fight on HBO PPV. Randy bought the fight so I bought chicken wings and fried pickles for dinner which we both devoured and then denounced shortly before slipping into chicken wing comas. Pluckers Ranch wings are so good, but I always eat way too many and get sick. Must learn self control.
I've also been working on my orange and blue quilt. I started it a year ago and keep putting it on the backburner. No mas! I will finish it soon. I'm setting aside free time on the weekend and maybe one or two nights a week to work on it until it is done. Then it will go on my bed and I can start making quilts for other people again. I need a snuggly for myself, first.
